I'd like to know what's the difference between them.
Besides , I am quite confuse on food such as egg.Why some said it's include on vegetarian while some said is doesn't ? same with garlic and onion ? which curry is vegetarian ?
Sorry ,I am new member here , hope someone can point out.Thank you

Usually Su(素) means the person whom cook the dish are not pure vegetarian or the dish consider onions garlic and eggs. When we say ZAI (斋), it means the person whom cook the dish are pure vegetarian and it does not consider onions, garlics and egg.
If you go to Mahayana temples, the dish there are pure vegetarian. As for curry because to cook curry you need milk, and in some context pure vegetarian also do not consume milk. |

You may check the Shuranagama Sutra, on why certain vegee is not consume, if i remember correctly there are 5 vegee ingredients which is not consume by monks/nuns. As it is said that these vegee after consume will cause some consciouness effect, which may arouse of breaking the percepts.
Are you a Singaporean? If yes, Kuan Ming Shan, Shuang Lim Temple are Mahayana temples.
Mahayana temples, you will see Maitreya Bodhisvatta, Amitabha, Shakayumuni buddha, Medicine Buddha and Guan Yin..these are the common Statue that will see.
As for Theravada Temple, usually you will see only Buddha. |

The sutra the monk chant i not sure..
It is up to individual which day they want to eat vegee, unless they have taken the percept of bodhisvatta, then they will be pure vegetarian. |
